Four school boards receive Education Leadership Team honor

Four school boards have received the Missouri School Boards' Association's 2008 Education Leadership Team Award. This prestigious award is based on those school boards' outstanding commitment to ongoing professional development, to regional and statewide leadership, to active participation in legislative advocacy for public schools, and to the successful implementation of education policy to improve their local school district.

The four honored school boards are Branson R-IV, Sedalia 200, Ferguson-Florissant R-II, and Hazelwood.
Those school boards met the following criteria:

All seven school board members in each awarded district have completed the required 16 hours of training from MSBA.
At least two board members in each awarded district have attained the advanced level of certification from MSBA.
At least one board member in each awarded district has attained the master's level of certification, MSBA's highest certification distinction.
Representatives from each awarded district attended MSBA's 2007 Annual Conference.
Representatives from each awarded district attended either MSBA's 2008 Spring Regional or 2007 Fall Regional meetings.
Representatives from each awarded district attended MSBA's 2008 Legislative Forum in Jefferson City.
Each awarded district had representative participation in MSBA's Delegate Assembly.
Each awarded district participates in MSBA's Policy Services and has conducted a policy review in the last year.

In addition 22 individual school board members have been recognized for achieving Advanced Certification through MSBA and 14 individual school board members have been recognized for achieving Master Certification through MSBA.

The 2008 Education Leadership Team, Advanced Certification, and Master Certification awards were presented at MSBA's Leadership Summit in Branson on June 7.

Morris becomes new MSBA President

The new president of the Missouri School Boards' Association is Paul Morris, a school board member from the Mount Vernon R-V School District. Morris most recently served as president-elect of MSBA. He assumed the position of president during the 2008 MSBA Leadership Summit meeting held on June 6-7 in Branson. MSBA officers elected at the Delegate Assembly include President-Elect Peggy Taylor of the Nixa R-II School District and Vice President Dave Wright of the Blue Springs R-IV School District. Robin Krause of the Knob Noster R-VIII School District will serve as Immediate Past President.
